A Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who can enter the field through two main educational pathways: an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Both pathways require passing the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain licensure.

A RN can diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provide supportive or restorative care, and execute medical regimens prescribed by a licensed physician, dentist or other legally authorized licensed health care provider.

Work Environment

Registered Nurses (RNs) work in hospitals, clinics, ambulatory care centers, long term care facilities, and home health care. RNs often work shifts allowing for flexibility.
