Overview
Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs) use assessment instruments, mental health counseling and psychotherapy to identify, evaluate and treat dysfunctions and disorders for purposes of providing appropriate mental health counseling services. LMHCs work with individuals, couples, families or groups in private practice, group, or organized settings.
Work Environment
Licensed Mental Health counselors (LMHCs) work in mental health centers, hospitals, schools, prisons, substance abuse treatment centers, youth homes, private practices, community mental health clinics, government agencies and non-profit agencies.
Demand
The need for LMHCs is expected to increase 18% between 2022 and 2032.
Salary
The median salary range, as stated by the New York State Department of Labor, for the Capital Region, Central New York, and the Finger Lakes, is $64,774 – $70,917.
