In Their Own Words is a monthly series featuring insights and feedback from Caring Gene® participants—because the people best equipped to tell the story of the CPT Program are those who’ve lived it.
The following students had their tuition and books covered by the Caring Gene® Program, a healthcare workforce development program designed to address staffing shortages and expand access to opportunities in the industry.
We asked them all the same question:
How has receiving funds through the Caring Gene® Program changed your life?
“I haven’t had an income in over 14 years. The Caring Gene® Program will give me a future, maybe even health insurance. Plus the chance to do what I love: serve others.”
“I don’t have to worry about paying for school while balancing working full time and being a single mother.”

Every graduate from a healthcare workforce development program becomes an integral part of their community, working with and for friends and neighbors, to increase access to care.
Thanks to funding administered by the Caring Gene® Program, more than 2,400 educated professionals will enter the workforce by the end of 2027. We are proud to have supported individuals dedicated to a career caring for others.
